step 1

We ask our families to participate in the puppy-to-family matching process. By doing so we help our families and puppies have the most positive experience possible.

We will match puppies to families based primarily on temperament and energy. We prioritize knowing our puppies well through all our interactions with them from birth.

step 2

It is an important investment for us to get to know our puppy families. We want to understand their lifestyle/activity level, experience with dogs, and home environment (children ages, etc). Once the puppies are six weeks old, we also welcome families to visit, which gives us additional information about the puppies and families.

We encourage families not to become attached to any one puppy. Also, encouraging  them to keep an open mind about color, gender and other traits. Of course, we understand people have preferences, and we will do our best to honor those, but first and foremost, we live with a dog's temperament and energy-- so our preference is to match puppies and families based on that most important information.

Orange Blossom Labradoodles reserves the right to hold/keep a puppy from any litter for OBL’s breeding program. Please contact us if you are interested in being a guardian for one of these puppies!

step 3

At seven weeks old we conduct a formal temperament evaluation using the AviDog Apptitude test. We hold the first spot on every litter for our program until the evaluations are completed. When the puppies complete testing, with our notes about our puppies and families, we start through the litter reservation list in the order deposits were received, matching pet puppies and families. There are often several puppies in a litter that would be a good fit for a family, so at that point, the family is given the opportunity to select their puppy from those puppies we feel are a match for them. We start calling families in the order deposits were received, we will chat about the puppies in the litter, we'll make our recommendations about the puppies we believe are a match for them, families share their preferences with us, and then they are welcome to take a couple hours to think about it and get back to us with their choice. We try to move through the reservation list fairly quickly-- within a day or two-- so that no one has to wait too long to choose their puppy. Local families can come for a quick visit or we are happy to FaceTime or Skype if someone wants to take a closer look at the puppies we've matched with them. Often families come and visit the puppies during the week before allocation day.

step 4

Once a family has been happily matched with their puppy, the balance of the payment is due within 48 hours, Paypal, Venmo, wire transfer, or cash are accepted payment methods. Puppies will be ready to go home at eight weeks of age!

Orange Blossom reserves the right to a spay/neuter contract or to spay/neuter any puppy before leaving to their forever home.
